Episode 30: Guitars at Christmas

Episode 30: Guitars at Christmas

This week’s episode is a little different as I share a little bit about myself and my experiences at Christmas. I talk about playing Christmas songs for family and some anecdotal stories of Christmas past.

Here are some links to some sites with carols and chords.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone!

  1. The story about your 12 string Takamine struck a chord! I bought a 12 string Yamaha FG230 when I was 15, back in 1973. I have used it as a 6 string as well as a 12 and still have it and still play it. I have the same problem with the neck and the action is now very heavy. I keep meaning to have the neck re-set, but can’t bring myself to let someone strip the back off. I’m worried that the tone, which I love, will be effected. Despite not using it that much I don’t think I would ever sell it. That guitar has been through a lot with me including my first ever gig, it’s a keeper.

  2. Yeah, I’ve used my Tak 12 as a six. I think mine is darker sounding because it’s geared for 12 so I tried to use brighter sounding strings when strung as a six. I have seriously considered tuning it down a whole step or more until it would be easier to play.

Yeah, some guitars, the stuff would have to hit the fan before I’d sell them.

  3. I also haven’t reset the neck partially because the cost to do so would be more than it is worth and I am not confident the procedure will give me good results.
